A developmental bias exists whereby the focus in education is often on cognitive development (and academic performance) with far less attention and concern paid to social and emotional development. This paucity of attention is curious in that social/emotional development are inextricably linked to cognition and well-being. In fact, it has been long recognized that cognition is socially mediated. The focus of this workshop is on the social and emotional worlds of children and adolescents, with a specific focus on the importance of healthy relationships with peers and adults
